On a post I wrote earlier about removing location from Facebook status updates, a number people inquired on how to do this on Facebook for Android app since the guide given in that article doesn't apply to the mobile app. This can be done easily by turning off GPS service on the phone completely but not everyone wants to do this. This stops other applications requiring GPS to function from working properly. Weather, Maps and other applications are few out of the many apps requiring GPS to work. Over three weeks ago, Facebook introduced notification sound that alerts you each time you have a new interaction on the social network. Audio alerts used to be for chat only but Facebook started testing this notification sound late last year and finally pushed it through on January 28. I've created a number of blogs, each having it's own Facebook fan page but over the passage of time, I decided some of these sites should no longer exist so as to give me more time to focus more on this blog. Now, those fan pages were just there but the sites no longer exist. A couple of days ago, I concluded that the best thing to do was to merge all those pages and combine their likes to a single page. I never thought it was possible until I did some findings and did it that same day. Facebook integration with iOS 6 is quite great but you probably won't like it when you've got thousands of unknown friends appearing on your contact list. The first time I did the integration, I was like WTF?! I got thousands of names on my contact list and when I launched Whatsapp, I had loads of contacts there as well. According to a report by Techcrunch earlier today, Facebook may soon acquire Whatsapp. Whatsapp is quite a popular cross-platform instant messaging mobile application used in several countries and over the years, it has become even more widely used as lots of mobile devices support the app. Whatsapp Inc has generated income by offering the application for sale at an affordable price of $0.99 at Apple Store, and a yearly subscription of $0.99 for the Android version after using it for a whole year, same with the Symbian version for Nokia. So, I decided to get off Facebook for a week or two: no messages, no notifications. I wanted to get away from the endless photo tags, group notifications that never seem to stop and many other things I don't seem to like about the place. I could simply decide not to log in but the pile of notifications and private messages that would be waiting after those few days would be rather too much. While some speculated it's probably due to a fallout between Apple and Facebook, others assume that the Facebook application for iOS developers just didn't think it's necessary to show which device photos and status updates are shared from. Unlike Blackberry that shows something like "via blackberry" below posts shared through the phone's native Facebook app, the same doesn't appear on iPhones.
