There are lots of apps and tweaks in Cydia but not all of them are what you would like to have on your device. Here is a list of tweaks I use personally on my jailbroken iOS 6.1.2 which I assume should be useful for you. I also compiled a list of repositories to get free apps and tweaks from. 1. iFile This file manager lets your do more with your iDevice. NCSettings: The Best Alternative to SBSettings on iOS 6.0.1 / 6.1

alternative to SBSettings

Right from iOS 4.1, I've been using SBSettings and it's one of the reasons that makes jailbreaking your iPhone a worthwhile thing to do. The toggles make things easier as you can just swipe you status bar horizontally to get access to your most used settings. It always came up on top of my recommended Cydia tweaks till I upgraded to iOS 6 last year. Must Read: How to Backup Cydia Tweaks and Apps to .deb Packages on your Computer/a> After upgrading to iOS 6 and later to 6.0.1, jailbreaking and unlocking the iPhone, I launched Cydia to install a couple of needed tweaks and first tried out SBSettings but to my dismay, I was disappointed. Some of the toggles didn't work and some kept … [Read more...]

Fix Cydia Error: POSIX: Socket is not connected

IMG_1046

Just today, I was downloading a huge file from Cydia on 3G, a file of over one hundred megabyte and this error keeps coming up every now and then. I've never download anything from Cydia that big and as a matter of fact, I've never seen this error before. It's been some days now that I've been trying to pull down the file but the thing keeps breaking midway. Wondering what could be wrong, I tried some fixes which didn't work and someone even suggested re-jailbreaking my phone. Must Read: Fix: Missing BigBoss, ModMyi & ZodTTD Repo in Cydia Now the reason this happens is nothing else but your network connection. I was doing this with a 3G connection but the problem was that I … [Read more...]

Fix: Missing BigBoss, ModMyi & ZodTTD Repo in Cydia

fix missing big boss repo

A few weeks back, I jailbroke my iPhone running iOS 6.0.1 but was surprised to launch Cydia and find out that BigBoss repo was empty. I had no idea why this happened but then I saw ModMyi repo was also totally empty. Thinking it was just a temporary thing, I rebooted my phone, launched Cydia again to see that it was still pretty much the same. I ran a few queries on Google search, came up with some advice that didn't work. Honestly, without Big Boss repo, it seemed like the whole essence of jailbreaking was defeated. I tried adding back the source but Cydia wouldn't allow me. The source URL is http://apt.thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia/ but unlike other sources, you can't add this to … [Read more...]

TinyUmbrella Updated: How to Save SHSH Blobs

how to save SHSH blobs locally on your computer

With the new iOS 6.0.1, it's only right to save your SHSH blobs locally before upgrading to the latest firmware. Saving your SSH blob locally on your computer enables you to downgrade your iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch easily even when Apple stops signing that OS for your device. Cydia automatically caches your SHSH blob and once you launch Cydia, it should be right on the homepage but I'm the careful type who would rather have it on my hard drive. Who knows, Apple's next OS may be buggy as hell or rather not that easy to jailbreak and one might wish to revert back to the previous version which they may no longer be allowing at that time. As shown above, Cydia shows available SHSH blobs … [Read more...]

tips to make iPhone run faster

With an iPhone 4s or iPhone 5, you probably won't find these tips particularly useful since you've got a whole lot of RAM to use but when you use an iPhone 3GS or 3G, you'll find your phone freezing at times. There are many things responsible for this and there are ways to rectify this and make you device faster. 1. How to Backup Cydia Tweaks and Apps to .deb Packages on your Computer

how to backup cydia packages

Something bad happens to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and you're forced to restore your firmware. You re-jailbreak, restore your apps through iTunes but all your Cydia tweaks are gone and you now start searching for them one after the other, installing them from Cydia and even forgetting to install some important ones. The worst scenario is when you forget the name of that tweak you had before restoring your iDevice. If only Cydia tweaks could be synchronized with iTunes... but we both know this is not possible for now. However I came across a Cydia application that does this perfectly and it works quite great. All my installed Cydia tweaks and applications were backed up and copied to my … [Read more...]
