Unlocking your USB modem removes all restrictions and gives you the chance to use other network operator SIM cards. My post on unlocking Huawei USB modems still works but this post explains how to unlock ZTE USB Modems easily. I tried looking for a free online tool to unlock ZTE Modems like the one for Huawei found here but couldn’t find one that’s reliable.
I finally came across an unlocker that unlocks ZTE modems along with huawei as well for free.
-First download DC – UNLOCKER 2 CLIENT
-Extract the content of the zip file to a zip folder
-Locate dccrap.exe and run.
-Disconnect your internet connection and plug your ZTE or Huawei USB modem with an alien SIM card (an unsupported SIM card from a different network operator) inserted.
-If you’re to unlocking a Huawei modem, there’s no need to change your SIM. simply plug your modem into your computer’s USB port.
-If the connection manager pops up, close the window.
-Depending on your type of data card, select either ZTE or Huawei from DC – UNLOCKER 2 CLIENT user interface.
-Click on the magnifying glass to automatically search for the modem
-Once the modem is detected, click on Server and type doncaprio.com in the username field and doncaprio for password.
-Click Unlocking menu, then select unlock.
-Wait for a moment till the programs displays this message: unlock is successfully done
-Now you can use any SIM card on your unlocked USB modem
I have a ZTE mf180, and it´s unlocked already, but this modem has a slot for a sd card, and my computer doesn´t read it.

If the drivers are properly installed, there shouldn't be a problem. the modem might have some kind of hardware failure though.

Dear Don Caprio, I have a problem with my Huawei E353 modem. I tried to unlock the data card using DC unlocker 2 Client as you did. The unlocker detects the modem and says the simcard is locked. But when I try to unlock, I get an error message “error – invalid hex string !(error code 2)” and couldn’t unlock my modem. Can you help with some advice? Thanks.
Most huawei modems can be unlocked by just calculating the unlock code from the IMEI number – How to Unlock Your Huawei USB Modem – I don’t know about that invalid hex string error but I hope that helps.
I've a HUAWEI data card E1550 and it doesn't unlock as said in comments, it gives an invalid hex error…

i cant enter doncaprio.com in both username and password fields, well the username accepts it but the password field doesn't accept it… the field length is one letter short than in "doncaprio.com"
It doesn't really matter. Just be sure you're not connected to the internet when you do it.

Hey guys. I did all the steps and it works. I unlocked my zte mf637u and it accepts all sim cards. Just folow everything step by step. And i noticed that when u type the password it is les by one character. It goes like, doncaprio.co . It does not take the last m for .com. Its okay. Try and see it will unlock. Thanks don.

I’m not sure I can be much of help if it’s not a Huawei modem. You definitely need a software that needs to have the modem attached to your computer like the one mentioned in the post above. I could have given you the unlock code if it were Huawei
hi jesebella, SmartBro’s CARD-UNLOCK code requires a 16-digit code. If your USB modem is Black w/Orange color, you have a ZTE usb modem. 8-digit or 12-digit UNLOCK codes won’t work w/your SmartBro. Globe’s TATTOO is a HUAWEI usb modem.

Can you try installing from the installation CD? Unlocking the modem should tamper with your files though.

It’s definitely a CDMA modem if it works without a SIM card. I’ve got no idea on unlocking that type of modem

As far as I know, CDMA modems can’t be unlocked.

It should unlock it if that model is supported but if it’s not unlocking it, that means this version of Dccrap doesn’t support your modem’s model

Baba, my zte mf190 modem just got locked bcos i tried the wrong unlock code more than the required number of time. heard there is a resetting of unlock counter. dont know how to go about this. Hope u help me out here please.

Most Huawei modems can be unlocked by just generating the unlock code – http://www.doncaprio.com/2010/08/how-to-unlock-your-huawei-usb-modem.html – I’m not sure about the new models though. But you can give it a shot.

Go to Tools > Options > Profile Management > Be sure to create a new profile with the right APN for the network you intend to use.

I don’t think dccrap supports MF100. There are lots of people having the same issue without a solution.

You neede to create another internet profile before you can use another SIM card….the network profile for the new operator you want to use.
